610 Rhode Island, designed by architect Daniel Solomon, is still a stand-out. Commissioned by a pair of musicians for acoustic performance, this residence resonates of the pop culture salon that has assembled under its roof: the intersection of award winning music, architecture, art, technology & motion pictures. A black-shingled façade is marked by large central windows divided by a chimney and flanked by 20 small square portals. Under a centrally-domed oculus, 3 bedrooms coexist with a dramatic entertaining space created by walls of Italian plaster, galvanized metal & 24-foot ceilings. At the core is a cylindrical stairwell serving several levels. 610 Rhode Island was featured in the motion picture “The Joy Luck Club,” has been published in myriad lifestyle & design publications, and was architecturally reviewed by The New York Times.
