Alameda Residence by Ohashi Design Studio

Located on Alameda Island, this complete makeover transformed a simple house into an inviting home. Each room was completely redone with new lighting and new surfaces, such as the oak floors, slate fireplace, and spiral track lighting in the dining area. The dining table and chairs are custom pieces by Ohashi Design Studio, and a wool mohair fabric in soft ochre was selected for the chairs to enhance the warm tones of the room.
Off the front entry, we changed an underused living room into a cozy library by adding a fireplace and lining the walls with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves in cherry wood. New skylights and sandblasted glass interior partitions and doors brought light into the formerly dark room.
The new kitchen and adjacent family room have cabinets of cherry wood and countertops of granite in a pale green tone. Lacking a separate area for a breakfast room, we created a very handy sitting area for informal meals with a generously curved extension of a kitchen countertop.
The kitchen opens up to the sunlit solarium with new slate floors and translucent ceiling shades.
In the master bath, a wall-to-wall shower of limestone is backlit by a wall of glass block (not seen here). The cabinets in cherry wood and limestone sit under mirrors with a floating glass sconce.
